The result of one doctor's zeal to provide proper healthcare to the poor children in and around Bijapur, Ashwini Children's Hospital was started in 1984 in a small rented building. Within three years it was shifted to a newly constructed premise with 25 beds having Emergency Ward, OT and a small NICU. From then, there was no looking back.

As the demand grew, so did the hospital. It was shifted to much larger venue in 1995. In the year 2000 it started tertiary care services with tree Ventilators, Monitors and ABG Analyzer. In the year 2002  The hospital added Colour Doppler unit to its armamentarium. In the same year it was tied up with Dr. Deviprasad Shetty's "Narayana Hrudayalaya" Bangalore, For Cardiac Care

Over the last two decades the hospital has marched on from strength strength. It has now evolved into as institute with 100 beds. The present Dr. Bidaris Ashwini Institute of Child Health & Research Centre, veritably a rare pediatric care venture, is housed in a spacious structure of 25,000 sq. ft. in a sprawling 1 acre of land. The hospital with more that 5 0,115 admissions in the last eight years and death rate of only 2.96% during this period speaks volumes about comprehensive and critical care given here.
